Choice and Women's Freedoms

Louise was firt elected to Congress thanks in part to both Republican and Democratic women who wanted a strong voice in Washington.  26 years later, Louise is still fighting for equal pay, equal access to healthcare and equal protections under the law.  A long time champion of women's rights, Louise has never backed down when it comes to ensuring women a fair playing field.  Louise has a long line of victories in fighting for women.  Since she has been in office, she has:

End the Wars in Afghanistan and Iraq

For 10 years, the United States has fought two wars, resulting in thousands of needless deaths and costing the United States trillions of dollars.  It is time to bring these long wars to a close. 

Louise has been a leading voice calling for an end to the wars in Iraq in Afghanistan- reminding lawmakers that the wars have never been paid for the last decade have been the second largest contributor to our national debt (the Bush Era Tax cuts are the largest).

Holding Washington Accountable

Right now, it is legal for a Member of Congress to trade stocks based on insider knowledge. 

For years, Louise has sponored legislation to outlaw this practice, and hold Washington insiders to the same standards as Wall Street. The STOCK Act continues to gain momentum, and since House Republican leaders won't consider the legislation, Louise hopes to pass the bill under a new Democratic majority.

Protecting Unions Against Far-Right Attacks

From Wisconin to Washington, unions are under attack.  Louise is a long and proud supporter of unions, knowing that unions serve a vital role in protecting and growing the middle class.

Louise is fighting against Republican attacks on unions in Congress.  Since taking power, the Republican Majority has proposed rolling back current law in order to weaken airline unions- a top priority of Delta Airlines. 

Louise continues to oppose these cynical and dangerous measures and is fighting everyday to ensure they never become law.

Super Bugs and Antibiotic Resistance

As the only microbiologist in Congress, Louise leads the effort to address the most pressing scientific and health issues of our time. 

In 2008, she authored the Genetic Nondescrimination Act, a law that prevents health insurance companies from descriminating against patients because of their genetics. 

Now, Louise is authoring legislation to end the threat of antibiotic-resistance "superbugs".
